SCHREINER is my master!
Who doent love the unusual color and shape combinations that SCHREINER NEW YORK did in their design and construction of fine costume jewelry in the 1950's and 60's. Known for the rarity and eccentricity of these aspects of jewelry design, SCHREINER even patented a method for the reverse setting of stones....point UP..rather than down....birthing the term Schreiner-set stone...(upside down!). Enjoy this litle showing of some wonderful examples of mine..some still available!

New feature: Ladies Wearing Jewels! This is from a party in 2010....spotlighting my dear friend and super-talented designer Judith Hendler, in her signature pink pendant/neck ring daily wearer......as well as palm Springs dealer and collector Julie Levine...in a black and white opaque necklace which Judith had just engraved with her signature for her. Originally, Acri-Gems just came with labels...but Judith will sign examples if she's in your vicinity! Julie and Judith.....both all acrylic-ed out! @ Route 66 WEST in fashionable fun Palm Springs California.

1920's celluloids/sterling overlay/inked/carved
I didnt used to seek out all these kinds of celluloid bangles in the old days...but for the past 3 or 4 years...they have sold as well or BETTER than the sparkly, geometric patterned rhinestoned celluloid bangles I am so well know for. These sell VERY well all over..are so tailored, in neutral tones..and seem to appeal to a wider audience than the blingiest of the sparklies....the sterling overlays are so 'equestrian'...the carved and inked....so 'Chinoiserie-a la Francaise" and the others..just easy to wear in artisitically combined stacks of 3 or 5. ALWAYS ASSYMETRY=ODD NUMBERS! Cardinal rule for bracelet cobos...think THREE! Ask about these...they are well priced and I am rich in stock on them!

People often ask me.."what's new and selling in bakelite jewelry?" I often say."Nothing that used to be sought after is what today's collectors are fascinated by!" i,e, the worshipped and adored bowties and gundrops and random dots are so expensive..and so often reproduced..they have almost lost their allure.....newer collectors buy bakelite that breaks all the rules of the golden age of collecting..ie.e no metal, no celluloid, no beads no rhinestones....all those rules NO LONGER APPLY! New younger collectors buy FUN FUN unique items like these cabochon studded bangles....not all all sought after in the 90's...today..these candy-like sweets are just what the bakelite king has ordered......have fun...buy what works for you and have at it!

The return of this blog!
Well...its been way too long since I posted here......I need to be much more consistent with blog posts on this blogspot site so I will. Ive just returned from Santa fe New Mexico and the Whitehawk Associates Ethnographic Show last weekend...Im back in Palm Springs...scrubbing the showcases, separating the Haskell from the Chanel, the bakelite frome the copper, the Judith Hendler from the Martha Sturdy. In Santa Fe...I got this nice coverage on another blog..and nailed the picture as usual. Bakelite always creates excitement, buzz and attention....and sold VERY well this show. So did costume..Haskell, Chanel, Sturdy and Matisse/Renoir....Juidith Hendler's work always stirs up a fuss too...and I had a great time.....Spent a lot of time with the luminously lovely Ali McGraw who sells for Mexican siver dealer and her friend Federico at the event...and she adores bakelite.....and we seem to like one another a lot too..much fun discussion of jewels and the making of many of her movies and television work..she is a lovely, elegant woman. More to come..on the ladies of Santa Fe.....met some lovely new folks, Sandra Fillipucci being a fiery haired redheaded stand out ....and her encouragement to go 21st century social networking marketeer MORE is whats responsible for my new found fervor for 'the blog'
